Discussion: The work of a curator in contemporary performance

In recent decades, the practice of curating has expanded beyond the field of visual arts into the realm of performing arts. In this event, aimed at art professionals and students, curators working in a museum, theatre, artist-run space and festival will discuss different approaches to programming, the politics of selection and the concrete content of curatorial work. 


Speakers at the event include Jonna Strandberg, Senior Producer of Kiasma Theatre, Riikka Thitz, Curator of the Stage for Contemporary Performance at Helsinki City Theatre, Anna Torkkel, Artistic Director of Ehkä-production and Contemporary Art Space Kutomo , and Emelie Zilliacus, Co-Artistic Director of Hangö Teaterträff Festival. The discussion will be moderated by Maija Mustonen, Curator of Mad House Helsinki.

tyttörakkauszine is a theatrical zine and performance installation.

The sorrow of the sad girl is a resistance in a society that is typically stuck in the idea of presenting girlhood as joyful and fun. For many, girlhood is an experience of otherness, and girlhood in mourning is a subversion of patriarchy by resting in sadness.

The work opens up access to five experiences that girlhood permeates in one way or another. tirlörakkauszine is an attempt to write and describe both present and forgotten girlhood.

If girlhood is experienced together, will there be collective understanding, liberation, sincere joy and love?
