Atte Kantonen – bugbath: pathmaking
bugbath: pathmaking is a listening gathering that invites ears to tune into murmuring music, imagined rustlings, and sharply skewed sounds. Curated by Atte Kantonen, for the third time, the event takes place at Parvisali, featuring performances by Heu Hsu, Amina Hocine, and the duo Marja Ahti and crys cole.
The practices of the evening's performers are connected by precisely executed sway at the boundaries between the associative and concrete qualities of sound. bugbath: pathmaking route takes shape as a spiral web, beneath which a soundscape unfolds where organ winds and geophonies shape the landscape, accompanied by gestures and object orchestrations.

Heu Hsun’s sonic journey began in Japan’s historic jazz and sound cafés, culminating in a handcrafted book. After spending a decade in Japan, she now lives in Helsinki and creates sonic narratives in new forms. She works with kinetic sound-producing objects, spatial installations, and performances. Central to her work are site-specificity and the relationships between sound, materiality, and cultural landscapes.
In the "bugbath: pathmaking " evening performance, the audience tunes into the forces of magnetism through self-built mechanisms that utilize magnetic stones and objects. The work is built on layered sounds and mechanical rhythms guided by invisible phenomena and the subtle micro-sounds of physical objects—a dialogue between the material and the invisible.
Amina Hocine is a composer and sound artist based in Stockholm. She is best known for her work the modular organ she built herself, with which she has performed extensively throughout Europe in recent years. Her music explores immersive textures, minimalism, and spiritual foundation, and rich psychoacoustic effects she calls “Sound Crystals.” At the heart of her work is the interaction between space and sound on both the acoustic and experiential levels.
Drawing inspiration from the spiritual sciences and she weaves detailed timbres which encourages deep listening in her compositions. She composes both notated music for musicians and acousmatic works, the latest being commissioned piece for the Edition festival x INA GRM's Acousmonium, that will be releases in their Portraits series in 2026.
Her debut instrumental album, ātamō, was released on the Subtext label on July 2nd, 2025.
Marja Ahti and Crys Cole will present their new collaborative project at the “bugbath: Pathmaking” event, bringing together two distinct approaches to sound, montage, and live action.
Crys Cole, a Canadian artist based in Berlin, works in the fields of electroacoustic composition, performance, sculpture, and installation. With focused listening at the heart of her practice, she creates subtle avocative works using haptic gestures and seemingly mundane materials–composing texturally nuanced pieces that shift sensory perception and continually re-tune the ear. Often site-spesific, cole's installations draw on the unique materiality, history, and sonic character of the spaces they inhabit, and the unique characteristics of the materials that she activates.
Marja Ahti is a Swedish-Finnish sound artist and composer of electroacoustic music. She works with field recordings, the sounds of everyday objects and materials, analog synthesis, digital processing, and acoustic instruments. Ahti creates precise musical narratives with organically unfolding sequences of details and textures, suggesting a poetic realm between the acousmatic and the documentaristic, between abstraction and the deeply familiar.
