Henriikka Himma & working group: Sakraaliesseet
Henriikka Himma and working group's Sakraaliesseet is a site-specific performance, which will be experienced in Alppila Church on 20.-23.8.2025.
Sakraaliesseet asks where we can come together to explorethe joys and sorrows of life, as well as its existential and cosmic questions, as aprt of everyday experience. The Alppila church is the setting for the performance and an example of a wider phenomenon where many modern churches built in the 1960s and 1990s are being demolished or closed due to low use and structural problems.
Through contemporary performance, Sakraaliesseet explores the spaces created by sacred architecture as both a private and collective experience. The working group explores the ongoing changes in urban structure and society, and reflects how these changes affect the lives of individuals.
The artwork combines performance art, stage essays, dance and organ music. The work is based on the Sakraaliesset essay by Henriikka Himma, which will be published as a Poesiavihko in August 2025.
The Sakraaliesseet is part of the 20th anniversary programme of Runokuu Festival. The work is a co-production of the Live Art Society, Mad House Helsinki and the Union of Young Power.

Accessibility
Disabled access to the church from the glass doors of Kotkankatu by stair lift. Access to the lower lobby via the ramp from the same door. Access to the lower hall, chapel and parish hall is via Hangonkatu via the ramp to the church courtyard. There is no lift to the third floor.
The church has a toilet for disabled people.
