Discussion: the curator's work in the field of contemporary performance
In recent decades, the work known as curating has expanded from the visual arts to the performing arts. In this event for art professionals and students, curators working in museums, theatres, artist-run spaces and festivals will discuss the different ways of programming, the politics of choice and the concrete content of curatorial work.
What does a performing arts curator look like in different contemporary art organisations, and how does context affect the meaning of the work? What are the career paths for curatorial positions, and what are the challenges and strengths of the artist-curator role?
Speakers include Anna Torkkel, Artistic Director of Ehkä Production and Kutomo Contemporary Art Space, Jonna Strandberg, Executive Producer of Kiasma Theatre, Emelie Zilliacus, Co-Artistic Director of Hangö Teaterträff Festival and Riikka Thitz, Curator of the Contemporary Performance Stage at Helsinki City Theatre. The discussion will be moderated by Maija Mustonen, curator of Mad House Helsinki.
The event is co-organised by Mad House Helsinki and the Contemporary Performance Stage of Helsinki City Theatre.
